Who were the members of the group of patriots who were responsible for much anti-British sentiment in the colonies?

For the most part, the leaders of the Patriot movement
were middle to upper class merchants.  They were not the true elites of Massachusetts,
but they were definitely not poor people either.

The
patriots were led by people like Samuel Adams.  He was from a family that was involved
in brewing beer.  That made enough money for them that he was able to go to college.  He
was high up enough in society that he was a tax collector for the city of Boston.
Another leader was John Adams, who became the second president of the US.  He was a
lawyer, which of course meant that he was well-educated at a time when most people were
not.

So, the patriot leaders were generally this sort
fairly important, but not completely elite, person.
