Bryon begins to see clearly the differences between him
and Mark during their cruise of the Ribbon in Chapter Six of That was Then,
This is Now. After Mark punches a guy in the nose after he had made an
"obscene" comment, Cathy chastized him for his actions. Mark explained that the boy had
it coming, and he told her
"I don't like being analyzed,
baby."
For the first time,
Bryon began seeing his future in the terms of "me" and not "we." When he and Mark were
younger, Bryon thought they were "the coolest things to hit town." Now, he wasn't so
sure. After M&M left, saying that he wasn't going back home, Cathy was left in
tears. Bryon agreed to take her home and be with her when they broke the news to Cathy's
parents about M&M, and
It was the first time I'd ever felt bad for
anyone except Mark.
